ST JOHN'S CHURCH SAFEGUARDING STATEMENT

Every person has a value and dignity which comes directly from the creation of male and female in God’s own image and likeness. Christians see this potential as fulfilled by God’s re-creation of us in Christ. This implies a duty to value all people as bearing the image of God and therefore to protect them from harm.

  • We accept and endorse the principles set out in ‘Safeguarding in the Diocese of London’.

  • We commit ourselves to nurture, protect and safeguard all our members, particularly children, young people and vulnerable adults.

  • We recognise that safeguarding is the responsibility of the whole church community.

  • We undertake to exercise proper care in the selection, appointment, training and support of those working in both paid and voluntary positions with children or vulnerable adults, including the use of Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) disclosures and making appropriate referrals to the Disclosure and Barring Service.

  • We will respond without delay to concerns or allegations that a child or vulnerable adult may have been harmed, cooperating with the police and social care services in any investigation.

  • We will challenge any abuse of power by anyone in a position of trust.

  • We will seek to offer pastoral care and support to anyone who has suffered abuse, developing with them appropriate pastoral support.

  • We will seek to offer pastoral care and support, including supervision and referral to the proper authorities, to any member of our church community known to have offended against a child, young person or vulnerable adult.

If you have any concerns please contact our Safeguarding Officer.

Services

Sunday 10.30am

This is our main service where we have people of all ages, stages of life and cultures coming together in worship. Our songs, refreshments and style of service reflect the diverse cultures present in the Church with Indian, Caribbean, African and European influences. We have age specific teaching times for adults, youth, children and creche facilities.

Groups

We all start the service together then separate for age specific teaching and come together at the end of the service.

Toddlers (0-3):

Creche facilities are available with an audio link to the adult service in the back left of church, children are to be supervised by parents or carers please.

Children (3-11yrs)

Kim Mall and team run the Children's Ministry on a Sunday morning.  The session runs alongside the adult church service in the Parish Centre.  The aim is to provide our young worshippers with an insight to following Jesus  and to be able to learn and praise together in a fun environment. Please note you will need to register your child when they go out to this group.

Youth (11-16yrs)

Chloe Masih co-ordinates the young people who meet in the Parish Centre

Adults

Adults meet in the main Church building led by our clergy, lay licensed minsters and other church members.

ASIAN LANGUAGE SERVICE 3pm

This service is conducted in Punjabi, Hindi, Urdu. It hosts international speakers and musicians from time to time and often features Asian snacks or full curry meals. John Mall leads and co-ordinates this service with Abbi Kalian and the leadership team.

There is also an Asian language choir led which practices weekly, as well as weekly Bible studies in Asian Languages.

the table

The Table is St John's new congregation led by Idina Dunmore and the ministry team. It's an informal Jesus-centered worship gathering with stories, prayer, music and food. The Table happens once a month in the Parish Centre hall. Everyone is welcome. Please check the What's on page for upcoming dates.
